Brent Thomas has a thought-provoking post about the church's attitude toward children. He cites one of Voddie Baucham's messages called "The Centrality of the Home" where he challenges pastors on whether or not they really believe what the Bible teaches about children, namely, that the man who has many of them is blessed (Psalm 127:4-5). One of Baucham's litmus tests for churches is to watch as a family with lots of children arrives at your church and see the stares they get. Or watch the way some parents get looks when they can’t seem to drop their children off to Sunday School in time.
I'm not one of those people who think that the more kids you have the holier you are. But I agree with Brent that we do need to revive the church's attitude toward children. We need to see them once again as a blessing, and joyfully do whatever we can to come alongside parents and cultivate family-friendly churches with a vision for the next generation.
