Today I stopped and reflected on one central reason why we must pursue life together in the body of Christ--namely, to experience the fullness of God's love for us in Christ. I get this from Scriptures such as Ephesians 3:18-19:
that you may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
John Stott summarizes this passage well as he simply says,
We need the whole people of God to understand the whole love of God.
I also like what Milton Vincent, author of The Gospel Primer, says about these verses,
We are significant players in each other's gospel narrative, and it is in relationship with one another that we experience the fullness of God in Christ.
I like that. You and I are significant players in each other's gospel story. By speaking the gospel and living the gospel we can help each other comprehend the love of God more clearly. So get into somebody's life today and show them the love of God through your words and actions. In doing so, you'll be participating in their story of redemption.
